And it can’t be too soon to announce the 32nd National Congress of the Unyon ng Manunulat sa Pilipinas (Umpil) on August 26 at the Intellectual Property Office on 351 Buendia Avenue. Atty. Adrian Cristobal Jr. will speak on “Writers’ Rights and Responsibilities” at a forum on IPR in the morning, with the ageless Gilda Cordero-Fernando speaking at the 20th Gawad Umpil ceremonies in the afternoon.

The UMPIL Congress and Gawad Balagtas Rites
The Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas would like to invite you to
its 32nd Writers' Congress and 19th Gawad Balagtas Rites which will
be held at the Intellectual Property Office, 351 Senator Gil Puyat
Avenue, Buendia, Quezon City. Registration will start at exactly
8:00 am. Please come on time.
IPO Director General Adrian S. Cristobal Jr will deliver the opening
remarks. Director Carmen G. Peralta of IP Philippines will tackle
issues concerning Intellectual Property and the Intellectual
Property System in the Philippines, while Atty. Louie Andrew C.
Calvario will discuss the copyrights and other legal matters which
may affect writers and publishers.
The UMPIL willl honor eight outstanding writers, namely Merlinda
Bobis, Florentino H. Hornedo, Roy Iglesias, Michael Tan, Arturo M.
Padua, Jesus Manuel Santiago, Luis Cabalquinto, and Rustica Carpio
for their contribution to Philippine literature.
Ms. Gilda Cordero Fernando will be the guest speaker at the Gawad
