PERSONAL COMPUTER (PC) manufacturer Acer recently launched a new line of slim, “ultralow voltage” and lightweight Aspire laptops and a mini desktop PC.

Casting its eye to providing greener and more affordable computers to a wider market of users, Acer launched its Aspire Timeline ultraslim notebook PCs, the new Aspire One ultramobile PC and the Aspire Revo compact desktop PC.

These new PCs, said Acer Philippines general manager Manuel Wong, were created to “give users stylish computers that do not break the bank and which are environment-friendly.”

“We have to take care of our environment,” Wong said in an interview, “that is why Acer is making its small contribution by making PCs that consume less power and which emit less heat.” The battery life for the Timeline notebook PCs, which come in 14-inch and 13.3-inch sizes, is pegged at just over eight hours “with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on,” he said.

The Acer Aspire Timeline AS4810T and AS3810T both have the Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1.4 GHz, 3 MB, 800 FSB) processor embedded and partnered with Mobile Intel GS45 Express chipsets to deliver high PC performance coupled with low power consumption. The AS3810T comes with a two-gigabyte (GB) DDR3 memory module and the AS4810T starts off with 3 GB of DDR3. If three gigabytes of RAM are not enough, the memory capacity for both units can be upgraded to 4 GB.

They also carry the Intel Graphics Media accelerator 4500MHD with up to 1759 MB DVMT 5.0 (64 MB dedicated memory, up to 1695 MB shared) for more lifelike images that users can view on the stunning 1366 x 768 pixel resolution of the high-bright Acer CineCrystal LED-backlit LCD screen—14 inches for the AS4810T and 13 inches for the AS3810T.

Acer also offered its PowerSmart Manager technology, which provides centralized control over system-wide power so users can extend the laptops’ battery life to eight hours. The power management application is also embedded in the Timeline chargers, which stop charging the laptop batteries once they are full.

They also come with a PowerSmart key, a one-touch energy conservation element, and the Acer PowerSmart Adapter, which gives the two laptops the ability to save up to 66 percent more power when put into sleep mode. The two also come with a Laminar Wall Jet Engine design that air-cools the processor and the notebook case for more comfortable use, especially when placing the laptops on one’s lap.

Timeline AS4810T and AS3810T have hard disk storage capacities of 250 GB to 300 GB and they weigh 1.9 kilos and 1.6 kilos, respectively. They are both less than one inch thick.

Also launched was the Acer Aspire 3935, an ultrathin 13.3-inch notebook computer that clothes 500 GB of hard disk capacity, a four-cell battery, fingerprint identification security and built-in Wi-Fi in a brushed metal finish. It also carries the Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 (2.13GHz, 3MB, 1066MHz FSB) processor in tandem with the Mobile Intel GM45 Express chipset for more powerful PC functionality.

Acer also brought to market the first NVIDIA Ion platform mini-desktop PC, the Aspire Revo, as well as with an 11.6-inch Aspire One ultra-mobile PC.

The Aspire Revo is loaded with an Intel Atom 230 1.6GHz processor, up to 4 GB of DDR2 memory and hard disk space of up to 250 GB. While it does not come with an optical drive bay, it has a 4-in-1 memory card reader, six USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, VGA and HDMI outputs, Wi-Fi and the user’s choice of Windows Vista Home Premium or Basic.
