Iloilo City (6 May) -- Komiks King of the Philippines and famous writer and director Carlo J. Caparas, will give a lecture on comic strips on May 11 at the WVSU Rehearsal Hall, 1:00 – 5:00 pm. The forum is free.

Dubbed as “Komiks Forum,” Caparas aims to revive the dying comics industry of the country by attracting illustrators and artists all over the country. He is expected to give tips on comic strips as well as inspire young illustrators to pursue works in comics world.

Caparas, whose comics strip works include "Panday", "Bakekang", and "Totoy Bato" will also be giving lectures and insights on the comics industry.

"Panday" was later produced into a movie where the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. was billed as the main actor. It also catapulted Poe into stardom and spurred more movie sequels.

Moreover, "Panday" was also serialized in television, along with "Bakekang" by two warring television stations in the country. Panday the series was produced by ABS-CBN, while Bakekang was shown in GMA 7, where Ilongga Sunshine Dizon plays the ugly "Bakekang."

The ‘Komiks Forum’ is just part of the nationwide tour of Caparas to promote the comics culture, especially among budding artists. He has already gave lectures and seminars in Manila and Cebu. His ‘komiks’ tour is also sponsored by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

The Komiks Forum here in Iloilo City is sponsored by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipno, the Panrehiyong Sentro ng Wikang Filipino and People’s Tonite. For further information please call 320-0870 loc 138.
