Cupid's Haste
for Miss MG Euan Yldeso
If a woman shares my love
my verse will touch the tenth concentric heavens;
if a woman turns my love aside
I will make of my sadness a music,
a full river to resound through time.
- Jorge Luis Borges
It was that night quite well too off,
and so lazy
When I saw the bird of Petrarch,
nay a daisy
Chiaroscuro of petals—
raining its rays
Its filigree shone brightly in
the gloom of days.
It fluttered gracefully through air,
like a scent
that whoever sees the fragrance,
on knees bent.
But the eye-candy was stolen
by the night,
and asked the stars where did it go
in its flight?
"Quell, child of the moon don't quiver,
don't quiver.
In tide, you'll follow the source of
the river".
I bid thank you of the stars
and farewell,
who sought to spare me off a
wishing well.
And all appeased, tranquil, serene
and cozy
of the night that was quite well too off
and so lazy.
