Hawaii migration literary tilt launched
ROXAS CITY (29 December) -- The Commission on Filipinos Overseas and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts has formally launched the "100 Years of Filipino Migration to Hawaii Literary Contest" as part of the series of activities for the centennial celebration of Filipino migration to Hawaii.
With the theme, "100 Years: The Filipino Legacy in Hawaii," the literary competition is open to all Filipino writers, students and professionals who can interpret the long and fruitful relationship of the Philippines and the state of Hawaii through poetry, essay or one-act play.
Winners of the competition have the chance to win Php 15,000, 10,000 and 7,500 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively, for each category. All entries must be original and must meet the submission deadline set on February 28, 2006.
For the poetry writing competition, entries must be a collection of 5 to 10 poems and may be rhymed or in free verse. Essay writing entries must be 2,000 to 3,000 words in length. Entries to the one-act play category should translate to 30 to 45 minutes in actual performance and must be accompanied by a one-page synopsis and a list of the cast of characters.
The competition is part of the series of activities from December 2005 to December 2006 in celebration of the 100 years of friendship with the island-state of Hawaii.

Deadline for "100 Years of Filipino Migration to Hawaii" literary contest extended
Tacloban City (February 25) –- The Commission on Filipino Overseas and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts are extending the deadline for the 100 Years of Filipino Migration to Hawaii Literary Contest, to March 31, 2006.
This according to the organizers will ensure a nation-wide participation and in response to the request of interested Filipino writers, students and professionals from the provinces, as well as abroad.
With the theme “100 years: The Filipino Legacy in Hawaii”, the literary contest is divided into three categories: poetry, essay and one act play. At stake are Php 15,000.00 for the first prize, Php 10,000.00 for the second prize and Php 7,500.00 for the third prize, for each category.
The literaty contest form part of the series of activities from December 2005 to December 2006 in celebration of the 100 years of friendship with the island-state of Hawaii.
