Love Letters In the Sand
Ah, the serenity of daybreak at the strand
With you and a scatter of little birds at hand
Early morning sea breeze's amiable touch
Still without the harsh sting of a late day sun
Caressed and livened your reddened cheeks
I dared express sweet thoughts with my toes
Etching them on the sparkling morning sand
You rushed to trample on the words with bare feet
Conspiring to erase with the oncoming foam
Racing water rushed with frothy leads
Taking with it words and foot marks on the sand
As it ebbed back from whence it came
I thought that I would immortalize the nonce
Oh how briefly the moment savored
My love written on inconstant sands
Flew away with the sand pipers
Even before the end of the dawn

Mangyari nasa sa isip ng naghambing ang "Ode to the Sea" ni Neruda.
Tama ang pagkukumpara. Sa okasyon ng dalawang tula ("Love Letters in the Sand" at "Ode to the Sea") walang kaawa-awang na-capture ng mga linya ang rhythm ng karagatan habang dinirinig ito mula sa dalampasigan. Kung kay Neruda'y maririnig ang alulong ng pumaparoon-pumaparitong alon, kay Ed Roa naman ay ang malamyos na hangin at ang mapanglaw na paggapang ng tubig sa buhangin.

Neruda's Ode to the Sea

Napilitan tuloy akong hanapin ang Ode to the Sea ni Neruda. Napakagaling niya sa imagery at paggamit ng simpleng salita para bigyan buhay ang mga damdamin. He is not complicated and does not play verbal hide and seek with his audience. Dama mo kaagad ang gusto niyang ipahiwatig.
While I appreciate your comments I still am very much embarrassed to be compared to the master.
