Ms. Philippines
Ms. Philippines is a play held by UEDC (UE Drama Company) on February 26, 2010; 10am and 3pm in the UE Theater, Manila. It was written by Dr. Isagani R. Curz, music by Gian Gianan and directed by Erick Castro.
I chose to watch the afternoon production. It was primarily a satiric comedy with a lot of sexual innuendos, but it was really fun to watch. The show was about a contest in search of the next Ms. Philippines as is obvious from the title of the show. The contestant actresses which were the main protaganists of the show really held the audiences attention. They were unique and funny. Let's see... (Please forgive me if I got some of the names wrong.) First, there was this feminist Lily Dimatapakan who argued with his boyfriend Tito (am I right?) that she had the Brains and the beauty to enter the contest. Second, there was this woman who was having an affair with a married man. Third, an actress (Stella) who had movie flops. Fourth, a call girl (Bridgette Sirangpuri) with a Visayan accent. Fifth, A girl (Loisa) with her aggressive mother (Mrs. Sagabal). Sixth, Norma with her maracas and her religious boyrfriend attempting to win and get rich. The last five I mentioned were the five finalists with Stella crowned as Ms. Philippines. But then after the contest, the other candidates didn't go home without something. Norma got all lovey dovey with his boyfriend and they were moving abroad because her boyfriend, a member of a Chritian fellowship, was assigned there. Loisa and her mother were on to their new exploits of being the next famous "mother and daughter" stars. The call girl got hooked up again with Effren with a new condiminium in tow. Effren, by the way, used to be part of the judges but got kicked out by his uncle Mr. Ramon Diretso, because of coming unto a contestant mainly to Lily who brought it to the attention of Mr. Diretso. Finally Lily who was th first contestant introduced in the show got sweet with his boyfriend who was exclaiming to her that she had brains and beauty eventhough she didn't win. Overall, I enjoyed the show. The people in the play really pulled it off, even the props man acotr (I don't what I should call him
) who had fairly small but many roles was funny. The whole production of Ms. Philippines even greeted the audience as they were leaving the theater. Kudos to UEDC.
