NBDB Book Club Reads Travel Anhtology about Old Manila
NBDB BOOK CLUB READS TRAVEL ANTHOLOGYabout OLD MANILA

Relive the days when acacia trees lined the streets of Malate, when Makati was far from being the busy commercial district as we know it today, when Vito Cruz was clattered by tranvias , and Roxas Boulevard was still Dewey Boulevard where people ride the calesa to spend an afternoon in Harisson Park .
Join the NBDB Book Club as they recollect the splendor of old-fashioned Manila in the Book Club's July meeting featuring Anvil Publishing's travel anthology The Manila We Knew , edited by Erlinda Enriquez Panlilio.
Twelve Manileñas reminisce their days growing up in old Manila in what award-winning author Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo calls “a valuable contribution to the lore about every great city in the world – part social history, part myth, and part love song. Manila might be sinking under the weight of problems…; its walls and bridges defaced by ugly posters and graffiti; its hapless pedestrians killed by reckless drivers and ineptly constructed billboards. It will survive nonetheless, because people like the writers of this book will not give up on it.”
Aside from the nostalgic pieces about the different places in Manila , also included in the book are original illustrations of renowned artist Manuel D. Baldemor.
The NBDB Book Club meeting will be hosted by Hooked on Books in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City on July 25, 2 p.m. Award-winning fictionist Tara Ft Sering moderates.
Admission is free. For details, call the NBDB at 926-8238.
