Nuno sa Punso

Would you like a cup of tea, with me
Here under a shade of mango trees
Within the comfort zone of a wooden fence?

Would you like a taste of bread, I made?
It's bibingka pie I baked today
Wrapped in banana leaves from a plantation, there;

Over the hedge and far beyond
stretch my masters' farm where I belong
Combed by the passing wind of love

I guard this land.

Nuno sa Punso, it is said that they show themselves to kids. It was also said that they were turned into fierce dieties to make Filipinos hate their own gods and to put an end to polytheistic belief.

So I'm wondering, perhaps in the pre-Spanish Colonialism, Nunos were friendly, kind dwarves who guards the farms and sometimes would allow kids to spend some time with them for a cup of good old ginger tea. :3

Hi Pmel,

Growing up, I was surrounded by grandmothers and grandaunts who taught me to say "tabi-tabi po" whenever I would walk on soil or grassy lands.  They say it's equivalent to saying "excuse me" or "may I pass", but in the lingo of nuno, dwarfs, and the likes.  I've been told if I don't say that, I will be in trouble - like what happenned to one of my grandmothers.   She got really sick, and one of my great-grandaunts said it's because she stepped on a nuno.  They did "tawas" and offerred cigarettes and kakanin to the nuno in our backyard.  She got better after that  - or maybe it was the medicine she took at the same time they did the "tawas" on her.

I believed in those things when I was younger....hmmm....

My aunt had a similar story: A root began growing on the sole of her foot and only an albularyo was able to take it out.

I treasure these little stories ... remembering them could sometimes make me happy.

Galing may bonus pang music.

Great! Teka, boses mo ba iyon? Thanks for sharing.

Hear me as I say and write the things that I mean.
Let me gather the words and make a new dream.
I stand here with a new hope, a new adventure, a new beginning.
Now stop and look around, for we are now sailing.

Don't be fooled by the melodious voice, Spike!

It doesn't necessarily mean, I'm beautiful! *blushes*

Sometimes nga kung sino yung pangit boses siya pa yung maganda or pogi.

Parang ako.....

maganda ang boses..... pero pangit hehe! - ano akala niyo?

Pero I can feel you are pretty. Sometimes it does reflect from the voice.

i say, you ought to do podcasts instead of blogging... mind you this is only a whimsical suggestion brought about by a bad case of hangover. Prozt!

I think it's a wonderful suggestion! *nods* That is, if I figure out how to use podcasts! xD

by omme on January 8, 2009 - 5:33am

the song just made the piece so much better....

i grew up in the belief that nunos are evil dwarves... never thought of them like people... just guarding their tiny parcel of land....

great concept!

when i was young i got some sort of overgrown prickly heat all over my body except for my tongue and eyes. the albularyo says it was caused by dwende in the well behind our house, on which i accidentally kicked when i was playing. they (dwendes) got irritated on me and throw sands on my body which cause those stubborn and itchy things all over me.

Tawas is the answer that time. the albularyo instructed me every 6pm everyday to go to the well alone and spoke to those unseen creatures, asking their forgiveness and telling them that i am about to apply the "medicine" the albularyo gave me.

3 days past i got cured. nobody knows what it is that got into my body.

But if everything is left unsolved, you continue to believe. That's the secret behind all folk/street/political (in the ancient times) magic and behind Noah's Ark.You believe because there is no proof ... just an old, old book that claims that it did exist.

Hmmm......

by Pmel on January 8, 2009 - 3:52pm

If you did get sick, let us know which of the three was able to cure you:

1. Albularyo

2. Lola mo

3. Doctor

Tell us what their separate diagnosis is for you. That would be something. :)

I still don't get it ... ?
by j luna on January 8, 2009 - 4:25pm

What happened to the foot and the hand of the two guys?

What is Inggo planning to do?

How can we connect the two prior incidences to what Inggo plans to do?

Based on the two prior incidents, what conclusion might have triggered Inggo to react that way?

Hmmmm.....

I'll ask my uncle. :P

by Rom on January 8, 2009 - 4:42pm
