Phantom

By paul mark japson

Look at me

                                What do you see?

                                An angel guised

                                In fear and priggish tenor?

Nay!

                                A monster

                                An execrable beast

                                Confounded by his nature

You ignorant fool

                                Enthralled by my misnomer

                                Fascinated by my austere flesh

                                My detested monstrous image

I came

                                In my own affliction

                                To execrate your complaisant air

                                With my own full sagacity

You despicable man

                                Your deplorable soul

                                Semblance of joy and triumph

Was the liqueur that I drink

Dissuade me

Appease the monster that I was

Speak of candor to all posterity

                                In your own idyll

Lift your voices and praise me

                                Mollify my tempest

                                Admit defeat

Abdicate and fall on your knees

I lived

As the monster that you see

                                Me

My apocryphal phantom imagery
