Philippine National Election: Turning into a Business
What is election all about? Is it electing a person that is capable of leading, and applying development to the country without corrupting first his mind and then to his people? Or is it choosing a person that is capable of spending millions of money for him to win and double the amount that was spent during the campaign, once victory is on their hands? Would you believed that a candidate, say a president, senator, down to mayor would spend money without getting back something bigger than what they spent during the campaign?
Many are claiming that they want to become the next president of the Republic of the Philippines and or become one of those senators governing our country because they want to lead and be of service to the Filipino people. We have congressmen in the house passing bill and resolution, but those were applied vested with self interest. Do we still remember way back 2004 election on the promises of the every candidate claiming for development, justice if only they’ll win? Five years ago, they talked about their plans and promises, but none of it has come in reality after they won. They were silent of course mesmerizing their victory and pork barrel. Are we still part of their victory? Year 2010 election is coming too soon, national voting will happen again. Issues from the past years were dug up and has come back into the mass picture. Senators, congressmen were silent after they won the 2004 election, but now they are slowly coming back to the limelight proving something that their colleagues are doing corruption and so and so…. Why now? Where have they been? What were they’ve been doing for the past years? Why now? Is it because they want to catch the attention of the media for publicity? Yes, that maybe correct because popularity is what it takes for their aspiration to have a seat for a higher government office. Sad but true, this is Philippine system of election, many are throwing issues, backstabbing, yelling, projecting their selves on television, radio and newspaper like a saint as if willing to help but like a lightning, the light (their plan) that they were telling to the Filipino people, also like a lightning that came so fast to their minds and letting the people see their plans but when the storm (election) is over , of course their plan is just but a dream to every Filipino. Is this the kind of system we want to have in the next 3 to 6 years?
There are number of youth movements pushing to have a better Philippine leader’s election, literally patrolling their vote. Information being shown nowadays on the right to vote with integrity, and who among of the candidates should win basically based on their agenda and the less probability of admitting corruption.
Looking back to the question why many are aspiring to be in politics when in fact salary itself is very low? Why would they invest millions of peso just for them to win the election? Is it the salary? The heart to serve? Or the power? This is the time to think about why would they invest millions of peso for them to win the election just for 63,525 pesos salary? Filipinos including me seemed not to see this kind of logic. The greater they invest, the greater chance of being corrupt. One will not invest in business if they could not profit more than what they have invested. That is simply the principle of business. Nowadays, politics has become a business. This is the time we have to re evaluate their claim. This is the time to ask ourselves this question: What does it take for a person to be of help to his country? Now is the time to evaluate this simple logic of business. Think, evaluate, decide and act
