Play Experience
We had a play presentation in our classroom, wherein our class was divided into three groups. Me and my groupmates (second group) are second in the list to present our play. The first group, who presented their play, named their group as a LAD meaning La Acto De Silangan Drama Company. The title of their play was "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the more corrupt of two?" by wilfrido Ma. Guerrero. This play employed realistic and tragicomedy, a situation or event with tragic and comic aspects (Webster's Universal Dictionary and Thesaurus). It is important for the audience to know the typr of drama because it gives a clear idea and for them not to be confused. The protagonist in the play was Christina, who had a luxurious life and a sex surogate. Then the antagonists are Clarissa, friend of Christina and also a sex surogate; a social worker, a graduate student in Psycho-sociology and conducting an investigation about the habits and ways of women;first man, who had an a conversation with Christina in the first scene and last is the second man, who went to the house of Christina and had a confrontation with the social worker. The said play was not like super dramatic one but had a suspense in the end which give contrast in the first scene. The effect of this contrast makes the play more interesting, as the social worker revealed her secret. The theme that the play presented was about these two person who had the same endeavor in life but one of them hide its personal life and tried to intimidate and discriminate the work of other people which is not right because she actually judge that person without knowing the truth behind this issues. Because of this, the power or intensity of the play increased the pleasure of the threatical experience. Actually their play was great but they only had few props in their presentation. The dialouge of the characters was quite impressing because they performed it as a normal conversation. the amount of time that the play's action covered was approximately 20-30 minutes. There is a big significance behind the selection of events dramatized because it simply depicts the reality in our society which is really related to their play's themes. Their play does not employ any narration.
The third group, on the other hand, named their group as a Red Warrior theatre Ensemble and Production. the title of their play was "May katwiran ang katwiran" by Rolando S. Tinio. This play also employed realisticbut this timeit was a tragic one, a play or drama that is serioue and sad, and an accident or situation involving death or suffering Webster's Universal Dictionary and Thesaurus). The protagonist was a "senyora", who owned the land and always discriminate the people around her. the antagonists were a slave, who died because of her master and then the two "tulisan", who had an argument with the real "haciendera", who pretend as a slave because she was afraid with this tulisans. The said play was also a suspense drama. the dramatic suspense there was the conflict between the senyora and her slave, who both exchange their clothes to pretend that the senyora was a slave and the slave was a rich one. which makes the life of the slave more miserable when she was killed by two tulisan because she had no money to pay the two tulisan as they help her to reach her destination. The themes of their play was about the discrimination among rich and poor people; the educated and uneducated. And because of this, the power or intensity of the play increased the pleasure of the theatrical experince too. Actually their physical effects such as sounds, costume, sets etc. was great but the way they act and delivered their dialogue wasnot really good because theyoften forget their lines (dialogue) and always look on thier script awhich is technically wrong. But I appreciated their efforts as they present diffirent props which makes the stage alive and attractive even their actions are not quite impressing. The amount of time that the play's action covered was approximately 20-30m minutes too. There is also a big significance behind the selection of events dramatized which is it also emphasized the reality in our society and this significance was related to the play's themes. The play employed narration as a means of exposition and it has a purpose beyond its usual function of communicating information about prior events. And the effects of this on the audience was it gives a clear idea of what was happening in the play. These two groups are both great in the sense that they give their best to make it fun and very intertaining. I learned a lot from it and it actually touched my life in a significant way. That i should be aware of my surrounding and be senstive enough to respect the feelings of other people.
