Prof. Romulo Baquiran Jr. Lecture: "Naratibong Poetiko sa 'Ang Pangginggera' (1912) ni Lope K. Santos"

Professor Romulo Baquiran Jr. will hold a lecture entitled "Naratibong Poetiko sa 'Ang Pangginggera' (1912) ni Lope K. Santos." Prof. Baquiran has won several literary accolades such as the Palanca Awards in 1988, 1989, and 1990, Likhaan Award in 1987, and National Book Award- Poetry in 2003. His awards for this year include the National Book Award- Nonfiction for his book "Sagad sa Buto: Hospital Diary at Iba Pang Sanaysay," and the CWRITE award. Prof. Baquiran will expound on 1) the nature of Lope K. Santos' work as a Tagalog narrative poem and 2) place this in a historical context via the first decade of Americanization and Modernization project of the United States. National Artists Virgilio S. Almario and Bienvenido Lumbera will preside as Reactors. Dr. Almario has reaped several Palanca Awards, two Grand Prizes from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award for literature. Dr. Lumbera has attained National Book Awards, Palanca Awards, and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communications.
The prestigious lecture will be held at the College of Arts and Letters Audio Visual Room on November 25, 2011, from one to four o'clock in the afternoon. The event is open to the public. The UP ICW Panayam Lecture Series is a venue for the ICW fellows and associates' creative and critical output.
