Pushing The Night

| |

You see him around
In tattered clothes, barefooted
Pushing his crooked cart
For an honest living
In a blind city.

He lights his kerosene lamp to push the night
In his see-through home.
But the wind keeps on blowing it out.
Like his cart
He keeps on pushing the night
To know the dawn.

Melcichon

He is a librarian by day and a poet at night.  He was born in Aklan but grew up in Zamboanga City and then matured in Diliman. Now he works in Iloilo City.

This made me think of that song...

He made the night a little brighter
Wherever he may go
The old lamp lighter, of long, long ago...

Quick question:
Why did you chose that last line?

-->"To know the dawn"

Just curious.... mainly cause I can't fathom reasons for such a choice...

Pushing the Night

To know the dawn

This last line can stand several meanings:

dawn could mean new life, free from poverty, equality, happiness. success--in short: better life.

That's obvious enough...

I'm hinting at the fact that your poem is ambiguous. Try giving the reader a little bit more information... a little detail perhaps?

Pushing The Night

I will leave the details to the readers.
