SENIOR WEB COPYWRITER

Primary Responsibilities

General

· Copywriting for websites, email newsletters, business line/service landing pages, etc. in a range of voices for diverse audiences

· Produce grammatically correct, well-organised, highly readable content for the Web

· Edit, format, rewrite, proof-read and control information from affiliates and third parties for the Web and Intranet

· Perform post-development quality checks to ensure SGS websites meet QC objectives

· Develop copywriting/content editing guidelines and other project documentation as required

· Perform daily QC inspections on SGS web sites (corporate, country and mini-sites) to identify areas needing improvement, such as errors and inconsistencies and non-standards-compliant layout and content

· Brainstorm with Web Project Manager, sgs.com Geneva Team and other business and technical stakeholders regarding the planning and implementation of new ideas and improvements to Web content

· Support sgs.com Geneva team in other Web projects and ad hoc tasks, providing reports and recommendations where required

· Stay up-to-date with industry best practice in writing for the Web, official standards, public trends and suggest adoption where useful

· Manage processes/workflows, prioritise both team and personal tasks and ensure the production of consistently high quality results

· Perform quality control checks on new and existing Flash animations to ensure correct copy and appropriate concept and message

Copywriting/Content Editing Team

· Directly manage Copywriting/Content Editing Team, reporting to sgs.com Geneva representative

· Manage copywriting and content editing requests from affiliates, ensuring their clarity and correctness, and suggesting alternative solutions to affiliates where necessary

· Prioritise tasks and allocate to team members, track progress and ensure timely delivery, managing affiliates’ expectations if delays occur

· Deal with unusual and complex copywriting and content editing requests from affiliates and oversee communication between team members and affiliates

· Teach and mentor team members in content editing, assisting them in solving difficult tasks, encouraging enthusiasm and commitment to high quality output that meets industry best practice, and sgs.com publishing standards and copywriting guidelines

Regular discussions with sgs.com Geneva regarding individual and team performance against deliverables, areas requiring improvement, personal development, customer satisfaction etc.

Technical Requirements and Qualifications

· English mother tongue, with exceptional written and verbal communication

· Bachelors degree (English or Journalism is a plus)

· Minimum 3 years experience in English language copywriting and content editing for the Web, and able to show portfolio of relevant work

· Minimum 3 years project and personnel management experience

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

· Knowledge in all major aspects of online marketing (search engine optimisation, pay per click management, affiliate marketing, etc.)

· Strength and experience in writing headlines, impactful calls-to-action, emails and longer-form content

· Exceptional copywriting skills, including the ability to write in a range of voices for diverse audiences

· Sound commercial awareness and the ability to quickly understand new industries, sectors and markets

· Solid experience using development tools such as Content Management Systems

· Ability to work with business and technical stakeholders and cross-functional teams in varied areas, and to balance and progress multiple projects simultaneously

· Able to instruct and motivate individuals and teams, and to clearly communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences with varying degrees of subject knowledge

· Understanding the relationships between different areas of the business and how they relate to the structure of sgs.com websites in order to give the support needed to the team and customers

· Understand the user base and how users interact with the structure of business lines and services on the sgs.com websites; being able to identify problem areas and create innovative solutions to improve the user experience

Additional Useful Requirements

· Additional languages an advantage

· Experience of writing copy for American audiences, as well as UK audiences, is desirable

· Basic HTML and image editing skills useful

· Knowledge of Web 2.0 arena
