SILLADA’S 8th ONE –MAN SHOW with Live Art Performance & Poetry Reading

Controversial for his 2005 painting “Menstrual Period in Political History” at the heights of “Hello Garci” controversy, Danny Castillones Sillada is mounting a major show on April 19, 2006 at Art Center, SM Megamall titled “Sillada”. The suite of his paintings will include recent and past works from 1998 to 2006 including the 2005 controversial piece “The Menstrual Period in Political History”, a satirical take on the cyclical turmoil of politics in the country.

Hailed from the troubled land in Mindanao, Sillada is a poet, painter, philosopher and performance artist. His works, as a critic says, “Are inherently sensual, sensitive, and teeming with vibrant colors.” But much unlike his poetry and philosophical writings, his art has no trace of rancor or sorrow, albeit at time, they can be enigmatic and haunting.

Sillada is one of the 13 featured artists of SAG, an on-line multimedia arts based in the US, along with international artists such as musicians, painters and literary writers. He is also a 2003 recipient of two awards, the Pasidungog Centennial Awards in Davao Oriental, in the fields of literary and visual arts.

As a performance artist, he is one of the participants to the 4th Philippine International Performance Art Festival that was held in Manila last year. He performed a powerful imagery of “Juramintado”, one of the belligerent cultural deviant behaviors in Mindanao.

A multi-talented artist and a former seminarian, who left the seminary shortly before his ordination to the priesthood, he took up Philosophy at the Queen of Apostles College Seminary in Davao, theological and post-graduate studies and the University of Santo Tomas, and obtained his MBA at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.

The opening of his show will be on 19 April 2006, six p.m., at Art Center, 4th Floor, Building B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. The exhibit runs until May 2, 2006. For inquiries, please email Likha21@gmail.com.

Keep on Truckin'

Good luck and I hope you hit some of our manhid politicos right in the cojones - and I hope they get hurt badly enough for their consciences to bother them until they decide to become the statesmen our country so badly needs.

Raise your voice and I will raise a glass for you. Kudos and best wishes.

Thanks for your encouraging words

Thanks for your encouraging words; I needed that. Actually, I am ambivalent whether to include the “Menstrual Period in Political History” painting, but now lalo mong pinalakas ang loob ko. Hope to see you at the opening.
