The Mangoe Tree that bears no Fruit

 

 

Outside of the fence, against the walls of the house, my uncle planted a mangoe tree. Each year my mom would ask the gardener to trim it once the branches stretches far towards the house windows and threatens to scratch the glass; and each year my mom would complain, "Why doesn't it bear me fruit?"

My uncle's answer would repeat over and over, "Because you keep trimming it down."

I could only agree. I've seen the tree my uncle planted at the front porch of his house back in Pag-Asa and it has many fruits, so many that his children's teachers and friends would knock on his door and ask for one. They grow about as large as my palms laid side by side for alms. He planted theirs about the same day he planted ours, right by the walls of our house.

Sometimes I would feel that I reflect that mangoe tree, constantly trimmed that it cannot bear fruit. Sometimes I'd hope my mom would let it grow wild for once just to see if it is really what's keeping it from growing mangoes.

Sayang ... ang sarap pa naman ng manga na tumutubo sa harap ng bahay ni Tito, maasimasim na matamisnamis and it's big too!
