Subject: UMPIL CONGRESS

Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas or Writers Union of the Philippines (UMPIL) will be holding its 31st National Congress from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at the Frontpage (fronting the National Library), T.M. Kalaw St., Manila.

This year’s Congress theme is “Revolution and the Intellectuals” and Mr. Adrian Cristobal delivering the Keynote Address entitled “More Than 100 Years of Supplication.”

Traditionally, another main feature of our yearly assembly is the conferment of the prestigious 18th Gawad Balagtas for lifetime achievement, which this year will be given to seven prominent writers.

The Congress will draw the participation of over 200 writer-members and will be capped by an afternoon repast.
