What Makes a Good Writer? A Metaphysical Approach
What makes a good writer?
People have asked this question countless of times throughout the history of the written word. Attempts were made by the greatest of minds to address this question, and provide an answer that would satisfy all and would be true for all. Despite the countless efforts exerted to put this question to rest, all attempts proved futile as answers vary like the number of hands that made them.
Good writing is being one with the universe. Confused? Will this be another one of those futile attempts mentioned earlier? This reply, however, can be explained with a little bit of analogy.
The way we write down ideas, or thoughts that come to mind, are as various as the number of ideas themselves. Ideas, in their most basic essence, can be compared to energy. For when our minds generate and convey images and information, our minds vibrate in measurable frequencies and release brainwaves. Measurable and categorized into different types, brainwaves were established as actual forms of energy. In parallel, our scientists have made considerable discoveries and studies to explain and prove that the universe is composed of energy. Each time our minds release energy, it contributes to the very fabric of the universe.
Now, we have learned from school that energy can neither be destroyed nor can it be formed. It is just transported or converted from one form to another, from one glory to another. This is the same with the universe. The energy that is within its core is transported back to whence it came from. Some are converted back to matter, while some are converted back to ideas.
As writers, we take part in this universal cycle by transforming this energy into ideas. Writers should convey these ideas properly, precisely and in the purest of ways. Ideas can then be transformed from one energy form to another, as it travels from one mind to the next. If the idea is not conveyed properly, then this cycle of energy transformation is put to an end. If conveyed beautifully, then the cycle of creation has begun anew.
That is what good writing is all about.

Hi, Sir!
Welcome to this site! :)
If the idea is not conveyed properly, then this cycle of energy transformation is put to an end. If conveyed beautifully, then the cycle of creation has begun anew.
Might I ask, how do you know your works are conveyed beautifully if no one points that out, especially, when you're just a beginner? Can you even make a completely beautiful painting without initial efforts?
Oh, and the idea of the HUMAN BEING is, itself, full of flaws so, shouldn't God (if you believe in a God) put an end to us as well? I suppose, my questions are either too hard for you to answer or you chose not to answer me, which is perfectly fine. I'm probably placing myself in a very tight position here by even the mere mention of it.
In any case, thank you for deciding to join us here. It is much appreciated. :)
thanks Pmel
thanks for the welcome, although we have had a series of exchanges in another thread. ( about God....)
I agree that it needs external responses to know that what you created is indeed beautiful. That is the purpose of creating, right? To solicit responses? Even if one is a beginner. That is why we need to write well and often.
Your poem created a lot of responses, right? Some may not agree with you. I certainly did not agree with you! But writing is about that. It stimulates the mind, and creates the same responses from others - whether they agree with you or not. The exchange adds more energy to the Universe.
I agree that HUMANS are as flawed as ever. No one is perfect. Everyone falls short of the glory of God. That is why WE MUST ALL DIE when our time comes. But life here on earth is just a transition period. A training ground for the more glorious and perfect life that awaits us. We are just transformed from glory to greater glory. Just like energy - for we ourselves our forms of energy in this Universe.

Yes, I do agree. One
Yes, I do agree.
One question, though. Do you suggest that the Metaphysical approach is just one of the approaches? Or do you suggest that as beings in the cosmos, it cannot be helped that drawing ideas from our finite minds requires an appeal or invocation to something Infinite, hence, writing is always metaphysical, assuming that we both agree that ideas belong to what Plato called the world of Forms where they are immutable, unchangeable and free? Writers struggle to strive after beauty, love, justice, and these have been defined in a myriad of ways but not everyone will agree simply because these concepts belong in another realm that is unaffected by constant flux, while we change everyday... The weakness, I suggest is because our radars when it comes to the metaphysical are not tuned in the same way. Some are more able to access the metaphysical and let them flow freely in their writings more than others, I guess.
There are a lot of things in my mind. But you may correct me or enhance my assumptions, if you will. I would be glad to learn from you.
And do you also propose that as writers, we have to be in tune to that Infinite (I call Him my God, yet for others he has another name) in order to make the writing experience a noble, truly, fine-tuned one?
God is ever so pure and perfect that it becomes an impossibility to reach out to Him, unless He reaches out to us (which He in fact, did). In my writings, I believe, simpleton in these matters that I am, I invoke His inspiration especially when I am writing about myself, or the universe or anything around me because as the Creator of these things, He knows what makes things tick.
I love your post. It’s like water to my parched amateur writer soul. Thank so much. Welcome to the site!

methaphysics...et al..
Thanks for the welcome!
To tell you honestly, yes, I believe writing is always methaphysical. Whatever purpose you have in writing: to feed your family (just like me, as I make my living from writing); to have an avenue for flows and fragments of thoughts that seem to explode from your mind; o para maglingkod sa sambayanang pilipino kagaya ng ating kapatid na si kislapalitaptap (lupit mo bro! nabasa ko yung link mo at yung blog mo sa multiply! rakenrol!) - we can do it because our minds are attuned to that purpose.
Yes, I do believe that as a writer, we must be in tune to the infinite, what methaphycists call the Superconscious (some call it God, others the Universe, while other call it Purpose). You are correct when you say that many are not tuned in the same way as others are attuned to the methaphysical. It is because most are operating in the conscious plane and their brain waves are attuned to that. But if they learn to enable their Alpha Brain Waves, they can get in touch with the Superconscious more easily.
There are several ways in which we can activate our Alpha Brain Waves, and be in a state we call euphoria. Others do it through meditation, others through external substances (do I need to expound?), while others like me just keep still and clear their minds and let thoughts flow. For some it may take a long time, while others can do this instantaneously. You may call activating the Alpha Brain Waves is just inspiration - but actually it is.
Salamat ulit sa welcome! I hope I could make more friends here.

A Practical Answer
What makes a good writer? Here is what seasoned writers usually give as a practical answer:
Read, read, and read. Always. Then, write, write, and write.
That's Write! (right)
thanks
thanks for the tip sir..
parang chemistry at physics pala!
"malibang ituon ang pansin sa mga bagay na malayang masasalamin at doon aahon ang kathang pupukaw ng damdamin"
Bakit di ko naisip iyon? siguro di ko lang napapansin...anyway thanks for this very informative, scientific explanation of yours about writing Mr. Peter Allan Mariano. May I ask what specific degree in engineering have you taken? All I can say is that you have great talents sir! Keep it up and keep on inspiring others!
